Updates from Raising Rhythm

May 2014

On May 6th, 2014, Raising Rhythm hosted its 2nd Annual Jammin' at the Rex Benefit Concert. We were excited to have featured three of Humber's talented bands as we raised money for the Shakarango Art and Youth Academy.

Attendants were able to purchase tickets at the door, as well as make a $50 donation (per ticket) on our donate page. The night was capped off by numerous raffle prizes, a 50/50 draw and an opportunity to sign and donate ukuleles to the Academy!

Performers of the night included:

  • The Mike Downes Enriched Stream Ensemble

  • The Humber Funk Band

  • The Colin Response Band

As always, thank you to everyone for attending and showing your support!

Instruments from Guitar Drive Received!

We are pleased to announce that the second shipment of instruments from the 'Give a Guitar' Drive have been shipped and received in Zambia! Children from The Shakarongo Art & Youth Academy (SAYA) were so excited to open the crates, and discover the creative possibilities in store. Thank you to everyone for donating instruments, and for supporting the guitar drive. Your generous donations will help to enrich the lives of youth in Zambia.

On April 1, 2014, SAYA will officially launch in Kenneth Kaunda's office, in Lusaka, Zambia. He will be presenting some of the guitars shipped from Canada, to the students at the academy. Stay tuned, as we post more information!

Special thanks goes out to Victor, Matt, and Mike, employees at the Martingrove and Belfield RONA hardware and home improvement retailer, for providing Raising Rhythm with the shipping materials.
